2023: Product Announcement
On April 11, 2023, Becton Dickinson announced an advanced ultrasound device that will help doctors achieve optimal intravenous placement of catheters and droppers. The system was named BD Prevue II.
It is noted that more than 90% of hospitalized patients receive therapy through a peripheral intravenous catheter - hundreds of millions of people a year around the world. However, in nearly two-thirds of them, vessels are difficult to visualize and access, often resulting in additional needle injections, vein damage, and infiltration into surrounding tissues. The BD Prevue II system is designed to solve these problems.
The device uses BD Cue Needle Tracking System technology to provide high-quality ultrasonic monitoring of the needle trajectory. This system is compatible with BD Cue catheters. Simulated studies show that combining a needle tracking system with ultrasound guidance can help reduce input attempts and speed up intravenous procedures. BD Prevue II offers additional features that improve ease of use. So, a special sensor is provided that reduces the training time of medical personnel: it allows doctors to use the system without changing the usual technique of introduction or field of vision.
Patients living with chronic diseases such as heart failure may suffer from poor blood circulation and large amounts of scar tissue in the vein region due to frequent needle penetration. This makes it difficult to carry out therapy and install catheters. Thanks to the use of ultrasonic guidance technology, doctors will be able to quickly and accurately install droppers, which will increase the effectiveness of treatment in general and reduce the level of discomfort for patients.[1]
