2023: Product Announcement
On April 2, 2023, Nova Eye Medical announced the launch of the iTrack Advance ophthalmic device to reduce intraocular pressure in the surgical treatment of glaucoma. device is intended for treatment of adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.
Nova Eye Medical has developed its canaloplasty device using the patented features of its original iTrack device. These include a 200 micron microcatheter for backlit canaloplasty. However, the updated design is aimed at improving the effectiveness of surgery thanks to the ergonomic tip. Additional enhancements to the iTrack platform include proprietary backlit microcatheter technology.
According to Nova Eye Medical Managing Director Tom Sperling, the engineers took the original iTrack channeloplasty microcatheter and combined it with an ergonomic tip that the developers say facilitates improved channel access. Thanks to this tip in the iTrack Advance, doctors can promote the microcatheter and then retract it around the entire circumference of the canal with much greater efficiency than ever before.
Dr. Mahmoud Haimi, a canaloplasty surgeon, performed the first USA in surgery using the updated iTrack Advance. All operations were performed at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma. Haimi reported that measuring intraocular pressure helps detect pathologies and allows you to find out if the patient is a candidate for refractive surgery.
Nova Eye Medical plans to officially unveil the iTrack Advance in the U.S. at the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) exhibition in San Diego in May 2023. The iTrack Advance system has already received approval for use in Canada, Australia and Europe.[1]
