2023: Product Announcement

The NII Steel enterprise, which is part of the Kalashnikov concern, has begun mass production of anti-fragmentation blankets that stop fragments of ammunition. The press service of Rostec (Kalashnikov is part of this state corporation) announced this on May 2, 2023.

The anti-fragmentation blanket allows you to quickly protect the objects of mass gathering of people - hospitals, schools, enterprises, railway stations. The light weight of the blanket and sufficient area allow it to be used to protect people in homes, cars and individually, when a person enters a combat zone. The blanket stops up to 90% of the fragments formed when mines, shells, improvised explosive devices are detonated.

It is noted that anti-fragmentation blankets produced by the Research Institute of Steel have a certificate of conformity. One of the first of these products was a company from Belgorod, operating in close proximity to the zone of special military operation (SVO). The batch of products will be shipped to the customer in mid-May 2023.

In April 2023, the general director of the Octava plant, Pavel Pavlenko, said that the company had established the production of Obereg body armor, which made it possible to withstand the direct hit of B-32 armor-piercing bullets. The 9.1-kilogram Obereg breast armor plate, which has a Br5 protection class, consists of ceramic plates capable of extinguishing the kinetic energy of a bullet and high molecular weight plastic. The side sections of the body armor have a protection class B1, however, at the request of the customer, they can receive a protection class B3.

According to Pavlenko, the production of body armor became possible thanks to the sewing industry and the specialists who have the plant. "In six months, we went from an absolutely raw product - there were a lot of test shots, consultations with special services and just participants in the SVO - to a finished one, for which certificates were received," the head said in April 2023.[1]
