2023: Launch of technology for high-precision geodetic work

Cherepovets Steel Mill (Cherepovets Steel Mill, a key asset of Severstal) launched a tool for high-precision geodetic work - a coordinate and measuring arm with a built-in 3D scanner. Severstal announced this on May 10, 2023.

The directions of the high-precision meter will be the measurement of the geometry of mobile machining machines, the analysis of the wear of metallurgical and rolling equipment and the Cherepovets Steel Mill machine farm, the determination of the geometric dimensions of manufactured or incoming parts in the absence of the possibility of linear and angular measurements at the stage of technical control.

No major overhaul of metallurgical and rolling equipment is complete without geodetic support. Not only their stable operation, but also the quality of the products depends on the accuracy of alignment of the components of the units. Therefore, the use of high-precision technology for measuring work is especially important. Our surveyors are armed with an impressive fleet of various measuring equipment and serious experience in working with similar equipment, so the development of the new technology has passed quite quickly, "commented Sergey Dobrodey, Repair Director of Severstal Russian Steel and Resource Assets.

This equipment is able to build a 3D model of the scanned element with an error of less than 0.1 millimeter. During scanning, the equipment builds a cloud of several million points, thanks to which in the resulting model you can find the smallest deviations from the specified parameters.
