2023: Product Announcement

"High-precision complexes" completed the development of the Ptitselov anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). The press service of the state corporation Rostec, which includes the holding, announced this on May 15, 2023.

The air defense system is made on the landing gear of the airborne assault vehicle (BMD-4M) for the airborne forces. A similar system was previously created by the High-Precision Complexes holding on the basis of a BMP-3 with the Sosna combat module. The Sosna combat module is equipped with two launchers for 12 Sosna-R missiles capable of hitting air targets at a range of up to ten kilometers and an altitude of up to five kilometers. The guided Sosna-R missile can reach speeds of up to 900 meters per second and be aimed at a target in a laser beam, which accompanies the target from the combat module of the air defense system.

Ptitselov air defense system

As the developers explained, the main difference between Ptitselov and Pines is that this air defense system will be able to parachute along with the "winged infantry" unit.

According to military expert Alexei Leonkov, MANPADS (portable anti-aircraft missile system, ed.) Are usually included in the Airborne Forces as an air defense weapon. Each unit has MANPADS operators and landing takes place with such an anti-aircraft complex. However, MANPADS cannot provide 24-hour control over airspace, purely based on the physical capabilities of the operator. In addition, MANPADS needs an additional review of the airspace for issuing target designation, it has a restriction on hitting air targets, Leonkov noted, adding that to solve this problem, work was organized to create the Ptitselov air defense system.

Unlike MANPADS, which can shoot down targets at a distance of about 4 km, Ptitselov can shoot down targets at a range of about 10 km, and higher than MANPADS. A portable anti-aircraft missile system is shot down at an altitude of 3.5 km, and an air defense system - at an altitude of up to 5 km, Leonkov said in an interview with Sputnik radio.
