2023: Sentence - 3 years in prison for attack on state sites

On May 18, 2023, the Rostov Regional Court sentenced IT specialist Yevgeny Kotikov, who was suspected of organizing cyber attacks on Russian information resources. The person involved in the case was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of three years with serving a sentence in a penal colony.

According to RIA Novosti, after the start of a special operation in Ukraine, Kotikov in February 2022 acted as a supporter of the Kyiv regime. He decided to participate in a DDoS attack (a distributed denial of service attack) on the websites of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the President of Russia. The investigation established Kotikov's involvement in these cybercriminal campaigns. The personal computer used by him as a means of committing a crime has been confiscated into the ownership of the state.
