At the end of May 2023, Rostelecom President Mikhail Oseevsky said that the company was working on creating a lithographic system for the production of chips. At the same time, he noted the complexity of such a project.

According to him, the government by the end of May 2023 is already engaged in the task related to the creation of a Russian lithograph. He also stressed that there is only one manufacturer of such equipment in the world (ASML), which is located in the Netherlands and which will not sell anything to the Russian Federation.

Lithographic equipment is used for the production of microcircuits and other semiconductor products, which means that without its own lithographs, the technological development of the country becomes difficult. Creating such equipment is an extremely difficult task that even advanced companies cannot cope with.

By the end of 2023, Rostelecom does not name the timing of the appearance of a domestic lithograph. In addition to equipment, the company and its partners will also have to develop software for the operation of the lithographic installation.

In the fall of 2022, the head of the National Center for Physics and Mathematics (NCPM) Academician and former President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev said that a lithograph for the production of modern chips in Russia can be created in 2-3 years. The academician then noted Russia's lag in microelectronics and the absence of X-ray lithographs in the country, allowing the production of chips with a nanometer topological size. According to him, in order to gain technological sovereignty, it is necessary to have this high-class technological equipment.[1]
