The release of IE 9 did not save Microsoft from falling of a share in the market of browsers

Despite an appreciation which industry experts gave to the new browser from Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, available in the beta so far the company continues to lose gradually a share in the world browser market.

The share of Microsoft in the market of browsers decreased in September of the current year in spite of the fact that the company released the beta of Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9) which was downloaded in total of 6 million copies. It is said in the next report of Net Applications.

According to a research which Net Applications conducts regularly, as of September all versions of Internet Explorer in total occupied 59.65% of the world market of browsers that means decrease in comparison with 60.4% in August. At the same time the downward tendency of a share is browsed for months: in July, for example, it made 60.74%.

At the same time, the majority of other influential software products of this category on the contrary increased a market share in September. So, for the end of September of Mozilla Firefox occupied 22.96% of the world market in comparison with 22.93% in August. Google Chrome grew up up to 7.98% from 7.52%, Apple Safari – up to 5.27% from 5.16%, and Opera - up to 2.39% from 2.37%.

The beta of the new IE9 browser downloaded 6 million times in two weeks, but analysts hesitate in estimates of its perspectives


According to analysts, further positions of Microsoft in the browser market will depend directly on success of IE 9 which beta release took place in the middle of September. On Friday Ryan Gavin, the director of a product and marketing of IE, said in the corporate blog that the beta from the moment of an exit was loaded by 6 million times. This digit to the widow exceeds that speed with which downloaded the beta of IE 8 for a similar period.

Net Applications is established that for the last two weeks of September when IE 9 was available, the browser share in the market grew by 0.24%. During the whole September use of IE 8 increased by 1.16% to 29.06%.

Use of versions of IE 7 and IE 6, on the other hand, decreased in reporting period that, according to representatives of Microsoft, is not bad for the industry in general. "We are satisfied with results of a research which demonstrates that clients select more modern browsers, refusing old versions of IE 6 and IE 7", - Gavin commented.

In general experts agree in opinion that stability of Microsoft and success of the new version of the browser of the company will show time. For example, according to the research InformationWeek, IE 9 is one of the most successful browsers ever put on the market. Experts of the edition noted that many new opportunities of the 9th version are also new also to the market. Therefore Microsoft came very close to opportunities of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera.
