2023: Reopening in Russia

Nintendo resumes the eShop digital store in Russia. At the same time, the store will continue to operate only in a limited mode. The company announced this at the end of May 2023.

Nintendo recalled that at the beginning of 2022 the company suspended the shipment of goods to Russia, and the Nintendo eShop digital store was transferred to maintenance due to the termination of processing transactions in rubles by payment services. In this regard, as well as taking into account economic forecasts, Nintendo of Europe decided to curtail the activities of its Russian branch.

As part of our efforts to fulfill existing obligations to customers, the Russian version of Nintendo eShop will operate in a limited mode. For the foreseeable future, starting May 31, 2023, Russian customers who have a Nintendo account will be able to re-download previously purchased digital content. It will be impossible to create new Nintendo accounts by specifying Russia in the settings as a country. Payment information related to Nintendo accounts, such as credit card details or PayPal account details, has been deleted for security reasons, the Nintendo website said.

Previously, players needed to change their region in the settings in order to use this opportunity.

In May 2023, it became known that the Russian "daughter" of the Japanese developer of game consoles and games - LLC "Nintendo Ru" - decided to minimize its presence in Russia. In "hibernation mode," it will work at least until the end of 2025 "due to obligations to buyers for warranty maintenance and repair of goods," Nintendo said in its statements.[1]
