2023: Building the System

In Russia, a new 300-mm multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) "Sarma" of increased mobility is being created. This became known on June 1, 2023.

As an informed source told RIA Novosti, the novelty will be able to fire "smart" guided high-precision ammunition. To do this, the machine will be equipped with an improved automated fire and guidance control system. The interlocutor of the agency clarified that Sarma will be a continuation of the Kama MLRS project.

Political scientist, military expert Sergei Sablin stressed that MLRS "Sarma" will be a good addition. More powerful and "smart" ammunition has long been needed, Sablin added.

According to him, MLRS will not exclude all old weapons completely. He noted that the new ones will be added to the existing reactive systems.

We know perfectly well that today we still have Grads and Hurricanes of various modifications and different years of production in service, - said a military expert in early June 2023.

According to RIA Novosti, by the beginning of June 2023, Russian troops use guided rockets in the Tornado-S MLRS, which also has a caliber of 300 millimeters. Such ammunition is equipped with an inertial navigation guidance system with satellite correction and allows you to hit various targets with high accuracy. As previously reported in the Ministry of Defense, "Tornado-S" uses guided shells in the North Caucasus zone on Ukrainian troops and military facilities.

The Kama multiple launch rocket system is a modification of the Tornado system with six instead of 12 rocket launchers for firing. The system was mounted on the basis of the KamAZ car and was supposed to have more mobility when driving on highways.^[1]
