2023: Building the System
On June 15, 2023, Gazprombank announced a card payment processing system, which, as stated in the credit institution, is based entirely on domestic components - a hardware platform, system and application software, cryptographic equipment, and a Russian-made ATM. The new technological stack will allow import substitution of a critical system in the banking sector - payment processing, the bank's press service said.
As noted in Gazprombank, in order for the client to make a payment on the card or withdraw money from it at an ATM, it is necessary that the issuing bank (the one who issued the card) authorize this transaction. Namely, he conducted a series of checks of the card: is it valid, is there enough funds to pay for the purchase. Now in banks, processing of payment transactions (authorization) is mainly carried out on imported equipment, imported operating systems and imported database management systems.
According to Dmitry Savers, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprombank, the bank is actively developing a program for import substitution of key banking technologies. By 2025, according to the results of the pilots, it is planned to transfer the software modules of the processing system to the Elbrus microprocessors. It is also planned to use the ALT Linux operating system and the Synergy DBMS.
We will also switch to Russian cryptographic modules and ATMs. Such projects have not yet been implemented in Russia, so we have an important mission to develop and test new solutions that can ensure technological independence. I am sure that our developments and experience will be in demand by the Russian banking market, - he said (quoted by the press service of Gazprombank).[1] |
