Aeroflot signed a direct contract with Airbus back in 2007 for the supply of 22 aircraft. But in connection with the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, as well as the subsequent sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation, Airbus was unable to fulfill all the conditions under the contract. According to RBC, the Russian airline was able to find a common consensus with the Western company Airbus, the second, in turn, also went towards the Russian partners despite the existing sanctions against Russia. In December 2022, Aeroflot received a refund of $199 million from Airbus for four A350-900 aircraft.
