2023: Kvadra Smartphone Development
On July 7, 2023, it became known about Yadro's decision to enter the smartphone market. The company will sell devices under the Kvadra brand.
According to Kommersant, the production of phones is planned to be launched in Dubna in 2024. At the same time, Yadro does not agree to launch the production of smartphones in large-assembly mode from Chinese components. Instead, the company will organize the production of printed circuit boards, and in the future will switch to work on its own RISC-V processor.
Experts interviewed by the newspaper believe that Yadro is quite capable of establishing the entire cycle of developing mobile communications. Dmitry Altukhov, advisor to the director of the Internet Initiatives Development Fund (IIDF), believes that Yadro may well release smartphones on its own, or it may order the development and release of a third-party domestic company, especially since recently there are such ones in Russia. However, the price of the final device will be higher than its Chinese counterparts, he believes. Other experts interviewed by the publication believe that the company will face problems with importing into Russia and debugging equipment for production.
Another unnamed source of the publication claims that it will be "at least extremely difficult" to meet the measured deadlines (until the beginning of 2024) and start releasing smartphones from Russian Yadro components.
It is possible to establish the production of its own buildings, albeit not from the polycarbonate used now in the industry, but from metal, - said the interlocutor in early July 2023. |
Vladimir Semenov, general director of the Consortium of Printed Circuit Board Manufacturers (ANO KPP), objects that sixth and sixth plus class printed circuit boards will be enough for smartphones. At the same time, he agrees that the main difficulty will be created by debugging production:
This is done by specialists of a very narrow profile. They are used to working on European equipment, which is practically not imported into Russia, only starting to master Chinese analogues.[1] |
