2023: Satellite Terminal Announcement
In early July 2023, Zaslon JSC announced the development of the Russian Sapphir terminal for broadband Internet access via satellite communication in the Ku-band.
According to TASS, the device was created on the basis of a flat antenna array. Internet access is provided through spacecraft located in geostationary orbit. The terminal is said to provide a high data rate that is suitable both for complex applications and for everyday use on mobile and stationary objects.
The novelty can be mounted on cars, sea and river ships, as well as trains. "Sapphire" weighs from 40 to 70 kg, depending on the version. The device is capable of providing communication when driving at speeds up to 300 km/h. The terminal can be used both in the civil sphere and in order to fulfill the tasks assigned to the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation.
| "Sapphire" is a device of domestic development and manufacture, not inferior to foreign counterparts and intended for work throughout Russia, including along the Northern Sea Route, "said Evgeny Grigoriev, commercial director of Zaslon JSC. |
According to him, high-speed satellite communication at mobile and stationary facilities is strategically important for Russia. This is necessary, among other things, to ensure information security. In the current geopolitical situation, as noted, secure reception and transmission of data, Internet access, telephony and video communication are especially relevant. Zaslon JSC is engaged in the production of airborne electronic equipment for new generation combat aircraft, and also manufactures multifunctional electronic systems and systems for the Russian Navy.[1]
