Earlier, security issues in the Ministry of Transport were supervised by Deputy Minister Alexander Sukhanov. He was relieved of this position at the end of October 2022, after the explosion on the Crimean bridge on October 8, 2022. the order on his resignation indicated the wording "at his request," but RBC sources had previously said that the deputy minister was in charge of security, including the Crimean bridge, after the explosion on which they decided to dismiss him.

Repair of the bridge after the first explosion took several months. In February 2023, all lanes for cars were opened on the Crimean bridge, and in May 2023, traffic on the railway part was restored. However, on the night of July 17, 2023, a new explosion occurred on the Crimean bridge. According to the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC), it was attacked by Ukrainian surface drones. Two people died, a teenage girl was injured. In Russia, a criminal case was opened about the terrorist attack.
