2023: Sentence - 7 years in prison for embezzlement of 0.5 billion rubles through non-refundable loans

On August 9, 2023, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow found guilty of embezzlement of funds from Troika-D Bank JSC by former chairmen of the bank's board Andrei Filimonov and Konstantin Babunov and a representative of the borrower of the credit institution Pyotr Demenkov. Both former heads of the bank were sentenced to 7 years in prison, and their accomplice was sentenced to 6 years.

The civil claim filed by the state corporation "Deposit Insurance Agency" in the interests of the bank was satisfied by the court in full. It was decided to recover from Babunov and Demenkov in solidarity 310.1 million rubles, from Filimonov and Babunov - 193.5 million rubles.

In addition, Babunov and Demenkov stole 370 million rubles from the bank. in the same way, but already issuing them to a legal entity. The central bank revoked the license from Troika-D Bank on April 17, 2019. The credit institution, according to the regulator, has repeatedly violated banking legislation, including in the field of countering money laundering and the financing of terrorism. In July 2019, the Moscow Arbitration Court declared Troika-D Bank bankrupt (case No. A40-116531/2019). In 2021, the Deposit Insurance Agency filed a statement to bring the former bank management to subsidiary liability. Troika-D Bank's debts at that time amounted to about 5.9 billion rubles.[1]
