On August 14, 2023, the federal retail chain Magnit announced the launch of cargo transportation by unmanned vehicles along the Neva M-11 highway. At the first stage, in an autopilot mode, two flights will be operated per day - from Moscow to St. Petersburg and in the opposite direction. Magnit semi-trailers with a volume of up to 22 tons, involved in this project, provide the necessary temperature regime and allow you to transport a wide range of food products without any restrictions, as well as non-food products.

The key partner of Magnit within the framework of the project unmanned transportation is. KAMAZ The transfer from the usual tractor of the retailer to the unmanned "KAMAZ" is carried out at the approved points when driving onto the highway and leaving it, along the highway the tractor moves in mode, autopilot but under the control of the driver and operator.

Earlier, Magnit joined the initiative to test unmanned logistics corridors on the Neva M-11 highway as part of a single program of the experimental legal regime (EPR). The introduction of EPR will allow testing digital innovations in freight transport, including the design, production and operation of highly automated vehicles (VATS) and infrastructure for them, the development of services for the provision of transport and logistics services in the field of unmanned freight transportation. In the EPR program, Magnit acts as a customer for transportation, providing goods in its semi-trailers, and also shares its own expertise with the project participants.

"By launching transportation by unmanned trucks, we will in practice assess the sustainability of business models of such a mode of delivery of goods, its prospects from the point of view of the economy, including the timing and cost of delivery, as well as compliance with safety and environmental targets. Magnit was one of the first to join the project to introduce unmanned cargo transportation into supply chains, which essentially means a new stage in the development of logistics, "said Fedor Pavlovsky, director of supply chains and logistics at the Magnit retail chain.
