On December 20, 2016, it became known about the conclusion of a major contract between Microsoft and the United States Department of Defense. We are talking about the amount of almost $1 billion.

According to the news agency Reuters , citing a statement, Pentagon Microsoft received a contract for the provision of technical support services. Under Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) the contract, the company will be paid $927 million.

In February 2016, the Pentagon announced plans to install Windows 10 on 4 million of its desktops, laptops and tablets. Microsoft called that deal the largest for the new operating system in the corporate sector.

The defense department planned to switch to Windows 10 in 12 months. As Business Insider notes, apparently, by the end of 2016, the process of updating computers Ministry of Defence USA was nearing completion, so the ministry ordered support services for its systems from Microsoft.

The corporation itself, as well as the Pentagon, do not specify which Microsoft products the new contract concerns. Perhaps this is not only about, Windows but also a cloud platform. Azure

The Microsoft website contains a separate page dedicated to DISA. This agency provides a secure cloud environment for the Department of Defense, the White House and various organizations somehow associated with protecting the United States. Earlier, DISA approved the use of the public cloud service Azure Government, created specifically for government agencies. In October 2016, Microsoft opened special data centers for the US Department of Defense.[1]
