Project date: 2023/08

At the KamAZ engine plant, exoskeletons began to be used to facilitate manual labor. The press service of the Russian automaker announced this in August 2023.

KamAZ began testing two exoskeletons at the engine plant. Two Russian devices were purchased and put into trial operation. The industrial exoskeleton consists of a flexible base of increased strength, a distributed system of elastomers and a corset. One of the samples was transferred to the subassembly of turbochargers of workshop No. 417. During a working day, you have to transfer from storage to the desktop a hundred parts weighing about 25 kg. It is impossible to use devices (crane beams, etc.) for the subassembly operation due to the brittleness of the turbocharger. The exoskeleton helps to perform heavy manual work.

The second exoskeleton was transferred to workers of thermo-galvanic production, where you constantly need to load gears and shafts weighing up to 15 kg into thermal units. During the shift, up to a ton of cargo passes through the hands of the factory worker.

As noted in the press service of KamAZ, a rigid corset has a disciplining effect on posture and protects the spine - the load on the muscles of the back decreases. An employee can easily lift and hold heavy parts without fear of getting a compression injury. With an exoskeleton, there is no need to take frequent rest breaks.

Exoskeletons are designed to facilitate the workflow as much as possible and improve the working conditions of factory workers engaged in manual labor operations. Based on the results of the tests, the issue of purchasing additional exoskeletons for other workshops and operations will be decided.

In its press release, KamAZ published photos of the exoskeleton used at the plant. The picture shows that we are talking about the company's devices. " Exorais[1]
