2023: Product Announcement

On August 29, 2023, Japanese companies Hitachi and Tobu Railway announced the development of a new biometric identification system that will identify users by subcutaneous veins on their fingers and faces. In pilot mode, the platform has already begun to be used in stores in Japan.

It is claimed that the proposed solution will simplify the shopping process and reduce the burden on cash desks in retail outlets. In addition, store sellers will not have to ask for identification, for example, when selling alcoholic beverages.

The platform makes it possible to carry out cash transactions without using bank cards or smartphones thanks to digital user IDs. At the same time, it is allowed not only to pay for goods and services, but also to accumulate loyalty points. The developers believe that the system will become widespread because it provides a high level of security.

The technology will be fully implemented by April 2024 at self-service terminals in some supermarkets. In the Tokyo future, it is expected that the solution will find application in other stores, hotels gyms, etc. Persons who have registered bank card data and confirmed their age will be able to use the system. The platform functionality is planned to be expanded based on the feedback received and the results of the pilot implementation. Since the system supports two biometric methods, authentications companies can choose between them according to the use case. In addition, identification using a two-dimensional barcode, which can be displayed, for example, on the screen, is allowed. smartphone[1]
