On August 29, 2023, German Bionic, with offices in Boston, Berlin and Tokyo, announced the release of the Apogee + exoskeleton for medical professionals. The electric powered product helps employees of medical institutions to raise elderly and frail patients.

Research suggests that nursing staff are regularly stressed by difficult working conditions and constant physical exertion that pose a health risk. This leads to an early exit from the profession, and also creates a shortage of personnel. The Apogee + system is designed to solve existing problems.

Apogee + exoskeleton for healthcare professionals

The exoskeleton serves as a personal assistant to medical professionals. It allows you to support patients when lifting, walking and preparing for various procedures, such as showers. The product makes it possible to reduce the load on the back of a clinic employee by about 30 kg per lift. There are special handles on the exoskeleton that the patient can hold on to: this simplifies everyday care tasks.

Apogee + is made in accordance with the IP54 standard, which provides protection against moisture. The exoskeleton has a small size and weight, due to which it can be used by medical workers with different equipment and in different conditions. The device does not constrain the movement of employees during everyday work. By using the monocoque as an external framework, the surface area is reduced, which reduces the number of accumulated bacteria and microbes. It also facilitates disinfection, which is an important aspect in health care settings.
