2023: Construction of 50 km communication channel
MegaFon has built a 50 km long secure communication channel for FSUE Rosmorport to transmit images from radars and weather data. Now a stable signal and continuity of the data flow will allow monitoring the safety of the movement of gas tankers to the floating gas storage facility in the Murmansk region. MegaFon announced this on September 7, 2023.
MegaFon has combined the facilities of FSUE Rosmorport in the Murmansk Region into a secure network: an automated radio engineering post in the Barents Sea and the Center for Ship Traffic Control System. The distance between them is almost 50 km. Objects are interconnected by radio relay communication via two channels laid by different routes. The data transfer rate over the network is up to 500 Mbps.
Information from radio navigation equipment and an automatic weather station in high quality and without delay is now received at the control center in Murmansk. Due to MegaFon's stable communication signal, it is possible to monitor the navigation situation and maintain radio communication with ships in real time, making operational decisions and ensuring the safety of navigation. Now operators of the ship traffic control service can conduct round-the-clock monitoring of the navigation situation in the water area and help gas tankers safely approach the terminal with floating gas storage facilities for unloading and loading.
The terminal in the Ura Bay of the Barents Sea is designed for transshipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Raw materials are delivered from Arctic fields by ice class gas tankers throughout the year. From them, LNG is transferred for a short time to floating storage facilities or by the "board-to-board" method immediately to conventional vessels for further transportation. The terminal is designed to serve up to 600 tankers per year.
MegaFon's digital solutions are used in a wide variety of industries, but are always aimed at simplifying processes and increasing their efficiency. Our partner in the Murmansk region performs complex and responsible tasks to escort tankers to the terminal with floating storage facilities and control the gas transshipment process. This work is further complicated by the specifics of weather conditions in the region. We are confident that the high quality of MegaFon's communication will allow the partner to make the necessary operational decisions and ensure security at all stages of its activities, "said Yulia Syabitova, Director for Corporate Business Development at MegaFon in the North-West Region. |
