2023: Blocking accounts of entrepreneurs from Russia for showing ads in other countries

In early September 2023, it became known that Google began blocking the accounts of entrepreneurs from Russia for showing their advertising in other countries. The reason is the current geopolitical situation, as well as sanctions against the Russian Federation by the United States and Europe.

Google began blocking the accounts of entrepreneurs from Russia for showing ads in other countries

In March 2023, it was reported that Google would ban Russian businesses from displaying ads for their goods and services in other countries. The fact that Google began to block the accounts of entrepreneurs from the Russian Federation, said the marketer of one of the Russian companies, which is engaged in online education. Advertising was shown to users in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan through a specialized platform click.ru. A representative of this service said that frozen accounts are likely not to be unlocked due to the introduction of new advertising rules. It is emphasized that the accounts of many Russian companies that broadcast advertising of their goods and services to other countries were blocked.

Google Ads notes that the current rules are designed to ensure security and convenience for users, as well as compliance with the law. Therefore, the company prohibits content that could "harm users or the advertising ecosystem as a whole." To ensure compliance, Google experts check ads, including using artificial intelligence. This uses AI models based on the results of manual checks. In more complex, specific and serious cases, the analysis is carried out by specially trained experts.[1]
