The Comstar replaced Riverstone with Cisco on 150 communication hubs

October 21, 2010: Comstar-United Telesystems completed upgrade and expansion of own multiservice transport network of data transmission in Moscow on IP\MPLS technology.

Within this project which started in 2008 COMSTAR-OTC set more than 150 communication hubs of production Cisco. Earlier given network worked at an obsolete equipment of Riverstone. The transport network of data transmission is built on architecture of the peripheral half rings connected by a core of network to capacity of 10 Gbps. Investments into the project made about 250 million rubles (more than 8 mln. dollars)

COMSTAR-OTC got the permission to operate of a multiservice data network in management of Roskomnadzor across Moscow and the Moscow region and brought network into commercial operation.

This network allows to provide to users COMSTAR-OTC in Moscow services in data transmission, providing communication channels, telematic services, VoIP (Voice over IP) and also to organize channels of access for creation of VPN (virtual private networks) 2 and 3 levels with more wide bandwidth of traffic for all communication services for corporate clients. Within upgrade COMSTAR-OTC also carried out increase and expansion of joints with regional network segment of communication that promotes digital rapprochement of Moscow and the Moscow region and allows to provide high-speed services to the VPN clients having offices in these two regions.

The JSC COMSTAR-OTC network is a component of a single transport network of Group in Moscow which consists of the thoroughfares of JSC COMSTAR-OTC, JSC MGTS and Comstar-Direkt Ltd interconnected by means of a supercore (supercore) – a crucial element of network. Infrastructure has topology "a double star" that allows to increase reliability of network thanks to a possibility of full redundancy, on network the technology of wavelength division multiplexing of DWDM is applied, the general capacity makes 400 Gbps.

Comstar-United Telesystems - subsidiary company JSC Mobile TeleSystems (NYSE: MBT), the largest operator of fixed connection in Moscow providing to operators, corporate clients and private users of service of telephony, data transmission, Internet access, a pay TV and other additional services, using basic network and access to "the last mile" to 96% of the Moscow households. Besides, the Group provides telecommunication services in six federal districts of Russia and also in Armenia and in Ukraine. The subscriber base COMSTAR-OTC in Moscow as of the end of the 2nd quarter 2010 makes 3.6 million room subscribers of telephone services, including 867 thousand room subscribers of broadband access in the capital and also 2.7 million room subscribers in regions of Russia and the CIS, including 495 thousand room subscribers of broadband access and 2.1 million subscribers of a pay TV. The consolidated revenue of Group for the first half of the year 2010 made US$818.1 million, OIBDA indicator margin – 42%. Securities COMSTAR-OTC are admitted to trading on the London Stock Exchange under a ticker of CMST.
