Over the past years, there has been an increase in demand for "cold" sterilization with ionizing radiation around the world. Such an impact can be subjected to a wide range of food products to significantly increase the shelf life, medical products for sterilization and polymer materials to improve operational properties, noted in the state corporation.

"Domestic companies have significantly increased the output of medical products against the background of the departure of foreign suppliers. Previously, analogues of these products were supplied from abroad already sterilized. Rosatom saw a request from the domestic market for "cold" sterilization, and our answer was the expansion of the network of processing centers. Our main customers are manufacturers of medical devices, but we already see growing interest in this processing technology from agricultural producers, "said Alexey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom State Corporation.

According to the state corporation, the market for sterilization services of all types of products in Russia is estimated at 4.4-4.5 billion rubles a year. At the same time, the method of ionizing processing as of September 2023 occupies a share of 35% of the market with an increasing trend. The use of ionizing radiation treatment technologies is completely safe for human health and the environment, as confirmed by the UN Food and Agriculture Agency and the IAEA.

Rosatom is the only network player in the radiation sterilization market in our country. As of September 21, 2023, the MCO network of the state corporation consists of eight centers in Russia, the total productivity of which is more than 60 thousand tons of products per year.
