2023: Making a Drone
In China, in September 2023, the world's first drone was introduced, using the energy of the explosion to accelerate the engine. The UAV, named FB-1 RDE, was developed by the Chunqing University Research Institute and Shenzhen-based private Chinese company Thrust-to-Weight Ratio Engine. The tests took place in a secret location in Gansu province, China.
Our latest development marks an important step in the company's strategy to promote detonation engines and detonation-driven flight technology, the company said after the tests. |
The Chinese edition of Chongqing Morning News on September 20 reported that the engine was successfully tested. In addition, the first flight of the drone took place. Its hull is about five meters long. According to media reports, the media engine uses kerosene fuel and can accelerate UAVs to supersonic speed.
The principle of operation of the engine is that the detonation wave propagates through a circular channel. Fuel and oxidant are injected into the channel through small holes or slits. After that, with the help of an igniter, a mixture of fuel and oxygen explodes and creates an explosive wave.
According to experts, the technology has not yet been finalized to an ideal. For a successful operation of a drone, its walls must be made of ultra-strong material, since the principle of operation of the engine creates constant shock waves.
By September 2023, China is actively developing its drone production. In July 2023, Reuters reported restricting the export of drones and equipment for their production in order to protect national interests. This decision was made by the Ministry of Commerce of China.[1]
