2023: Software Registration

Registered first Russia ON in for planning. radiation therapy We are talking about the development, the Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) press service of the university said on October 5, 2023.

Specialists of the Technological Reference Center for Ionizing Radiation in Radiobiology, Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine TPU have developed and registered software for dosimetric planning of radiation therapy. This software simplifies the process of planning radiation therapy for medical physicists and oncologists.

TPU developed software for planning radiation therapy

The software product developed by the specialists of the Tomsk Polytechnic University allows calculating the values of dose loads during dosimetric planning of gamma-neutron therapy. For this purpose, such parameters of dosimetric plans as number of sessions, single dose per fraction, number of irradiation fields, neutron dose field characteristics, beam incidence angles, coordinates of beam entry points are preliminarily entered into the application.

With the help of the application, you can not only calculate what dose the tumor will be irradiated with, but also what load the patient's skin surface and critical organs receive - healthy tissues and cells. Thus, computer modeling of dose fields makes it possible not only to optimize the treatment process, but also to minimize the risks of complications and deterioration of the quality of life for the patient, "said Ekaterina Selikhova, engineer of the Technological Reference Center for Ionizing Radiation in Radiobiology, Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine.

The developers' plans include upgrading the application. Namely, the creation of a convenient interface, the possibility of reconstructing the volumetric view of the patient's anatomical structures in 3D format, adding new functions for more accurate planning of dose loads and evaluating the dosimetric plan, the TPU reported.[1]
