2023: Russia's refusal to supply the most advanced microprocessors

In October 2023, the Chinese company Loongson began shipping the most advanced processors in its range - 3A6000. They will not be supplied to the Russian market, since the new chips are intended only for the PRC market.

According to WCCFTech, single-chip 3A5000 systems released in 2021 will be supplied to the Russian market. They will be used by Russian manufacturers of servers, storage systems, desktops and laptops.

Loongson 3A6000 Processor

Loongson Technology processors built on LoongArch's own architecture are highly energy efficient, and low heat dissipation with comparable performance with AMD and Intel is now considered the main advantage of products based on Loongson processors. This setting is important for industrial hardware, servers, DSS, and mobile devices.

The 3A5000 processor combines four cores and is built on the LoongArch GS464V architecture. This model supports binary transform extension (LBT) instructions, vector processing extension (LSX) instructions, vector processing extension (LASX) instructions, and virtualization extension instructions. The operating frequency of the processor is 2.3-2.5 GHz, and in performance it is similar to the first generation Ryzen.

Loongson itself compared its CPU to some of the 10th generation Intel Core processors, but there were no details. The company also noted that the 3A6000 is 60% faster 3A5000 in single-threaded mode, and in multi-threaded mode by half. In this case, we are talking about a comparison in terms of the number of instructions executed per clock (IPC). IPC alone does not necessarily mean that the new Loongson processor will be as fast in terms of overall performance against its American competitors - this is more influenced by clock speed and other parameters.[1]
