2023: First trials of a garbage truck

On October 17, 2023, the first garbage truck, which operates on electric traction, was tested. The car completed several flights on the highest section of the M5 highway. In total, the garbage truck traveled about 100 km along the Miass-Zlatoust route.

According to TASS, the design was developed at South Ural State University. To do this, the scientists studied the cycle of work of scavengers in Chelyabinsk, collected data on travel time and stops, as well as mileage and route.

After analyzing the collected data, the required characteristics of the electric motor were calculated. In the next stage of research, it is planned to place the engine inside the car. The program of control of draft electrical equipment was developed by scientists SUSUS together with the company "Canopus." After testing, garbage trucks will be produced at the Ural plant.

The number one task today in mechanical engineering is to preserve the environment. To preserve the environment, modern mechanical engineering strives to use electrical platforms both in the design of cars and trucks, Ramil Zakirov, director of the Research Institute of Experimental Mechanical Engineering of SUSU, said in an interview with TASS.

Technically, a garbage truck is a hybrid, as it has more than one energy source. It is planned that inside cities a garbage truck will drive electricity, and use a regular combustion engine outside the city limits. When operating an electric engine, the maximum speed of a garbage truck is 60 km/h.

The maximum speed of our car is up to 90 km/h, it is achieved when using a regular engine. The highest speed on the battery reaches 60 km/h, there is no need for more, since electric traction will be used precisely to move around the courtyards, Zakirov said.[1]
