2023: Product Announcement

On October 13, 2023, Adobe introduced the world's first clothing with built-in mini-displays that can change pattern and color. The technology was developed according to the Project Primrose project, and the debut product was an interactive mini-dress.

Adobe notes that advances in intelligent materials have allowed displays to move beyond familiar flat surfaces and electronic devices. Participants in the Primrose project have created a kind of smart textile, on the basis of which interactive items of clothing can be created. The technology is based on polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLC) with a reflecting substrate. This electroactive material allows you to form "mini-displays" of different shapes with low power consumption.

In particular, the presented dress is able to demonstrate various patterns and dynamically change the pattern in response to movements. You can customize the operation of an array of mini-elements software using Adobe Firefly, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Stock, and Adobe Illustrator. The content can be played over the entire surface of the garment.

Adobe, in particular, showed how a dress can display a pattern in the form of stripes and a diamond structure. It is possible to activate static and dynamic modes: in the second case, an unusual outfit reacts to the actions of the owner. In addition, switching between light and dark shades is allowed. In fact, the solution offers an unlimited number of personalization options that depend only on the user's imagination. In the future, the proposed technology is expected to find application not only in the field of high fashion, but also in the field of advertising, in interior design, as well as in the military industry - for example, to create new types of camouflage.[1]
