2023: Product Announcement

In October 2023, it became known about the work on digital passports of clothing conducted by the Russian Environmental Operator (REO). The project is designed to improve the process of sorting textiles during its processing - the digital passport of clothing will contain information about its composition, the entire production and supply chain.

By October 2023, information on the product label is often untrue or missing, making the sorting process difficult. The introduction of virtual documents will allow sorting textile and shoe waste in an automated mode, which will significantly increase the throughput of factories, the REO explained. They also reported that they had already begun to work with suppliers of solutions for automated sorting.

Moreover, the virtual document will allow you to track that the thing was produced in accordance with environmental and ethical standards. We will be able to track the share of secondary raw materials involved in the production of clothing in the country. The consumer, in turn, will receive reliable information about the product, about its compliance with environmental requirements, "Denis Butsaev, CEO of the REO, told Izvestia.

The project will be combined with digital labeling, but their goals are different, the operator noted. Thus, the identification of goods, which is implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the CRPT, is intended for fiscal purposes and the fight against illegal products. The REO also stressed that clothing manufacturers and importers will not need additional equipment to create such virtual documents, except for a digital camera.

According to Darya Alekseeva, director and founder of the Second Wind Charitable Foundation, companies will need investments to assign a passport to things, put codes on tags, and processors will also have to automate the process of processing collected things. This means that business will need subsidies.[1]
