2023: Product Announcement

On October 24, 2023, startup Atom Computing announced the industry's first quantum computer with more than 1,000 qubits. The company says this is a landmark development, as with the advent of similar systems, universal quantum computers will begin to transform the high-performance computing (LDC) industry.

The potential of quantum computing is enormous, but the development of such complexes is fraught with serious difficulties. One of the main problems is that qubits are unstable, and therefore extreme low temperatures are required to work with them. Atom Computing's unique approach is to create qubits using neutral atoms rather than ions, as is the case with many other quantum computing platforms. Light pulses are used for interaction.

In 2021, the startup created an architecture in the form of 10×10 atoms. The new system involves a lattice of type 35×35, raising the potential number of atoms to 1,225. Qubits are placed in a special box with dimensions of 3,6×1,5 m, which also houses lasers, the necessary optics and a vacuum system. While the coherence period of other types of qubits is a fraction of a second, neutral atoms, according to Atom Computing, are able to maintain a state of up to 40 seconds. And this opens up new opportunities in terms of organizing quantum computing.

The startup also demonstrated the ability to measure the quantum state of certain qubits during computation. In addition, you can detect errors without disrupting the work of other qubits, as well as correct them in real time. The next step for Atom Computing will be to collaborate with enterprise, academic and government customers to develop new applications that can take advantage of advanced quantum systems.[1]
