At the end of October 2023, the Chinese company, Shenzhen Xunlong Software Co. which produces, among other things, single-board computers under the Orange Pi brand, announced the Orange Pi OS operating system for personal computers. This open platform is based on, Huawei Harmony OS which is positioned as a solution for the Internet Internet of Everything era.

It is reported that the "desktop" Orange Pi OS will initially be released for computers with Arm processors. In particular, the new operating system will be used on devices made on the Orange Pi 3B, Orange Pi 5 and Orange Pi 5 Plus mini-boards, which are equipped with a Rockchip RK3566, RK3588S and RK3588 processor, respectively. In the future, it is planned to adapt Orange Pi OS for the x86 architecture, which will allow running the OS on computers with AMD and Intel chips. Thus, Orange Pi OS will enter a market dominated by Windows and Linux.

For the new software platform, support for monitors connected via the HDMI interface, as well as touch displays, is announced. Orange Pi OS will receive full multitasking, file manager, taskbar and control center. In addition, it is said about a wide set of pre-installed software: this is a browser, office applications and a media player. Through the built-in app store, users will have access to additional software and entertainment content. Among other things, support for customizable themes and an interface with animation is mentioned.

There are also versions of Orange Pi OS based on Android and the Arch Linux distribution. Thus, Orange Pi OS platforms can cover a wide range of devices - from desktops and laptops to tablets, smart TVs and various terminals.[1]
