As TAdviser found out, Sberbank is developing its own DSS. Information about this is contained in a number of vacancies of Sberbank, published in October 2023 on its website and on the HH recruiting portal. We are talking about "distributed, fault-tolerant, highly loaded software-defined DSS."

The project of its own data storage system for Sberbank is an ambitious task to create DSS from the best world practices. Complexity of the Big Enterprise level, scalability of the Google level, speed at the level of modern supercomputers, - says the description of the development project.

There, in vacancies, it is indicated that the project is completely new, with a complete absence of legacy, and is fully provided with "modern high-tech hardware."

The duties of the C/C + + developer, in particular, whom Sberbank was looking for for the project, include the development of DSS, the design and development of protocols for the interaction of cluster nodes with each other, writing DSS modules and auxiliary software (monitoring, autotests, etc.), as well as writing code in ultra low latency style, with microsecond^[1]+ +.

Sberbank chose not to disclose the details of this project, including what "hardware" is used in it.

It is possible that the project can use iron and an examination of Elpitech, which was acquired by Salyutdevais LLC at the end of 2022 (until May 2022 it was called Sberdevais, SberDevices). Elpitech's portfolio includes, but is not limited to, servers and DSS. The company's website says that one of its product areas is the development and production of universal and "blade" servers of its own brand for use in creating high-performance computing clusters, as well as HPC services. Her team includes former engineers and architects of the bankrupt supercomputer manufacturer T-Platforms, and is headed by Alexander Grishchenkov, a native of T-Platforms.

True, in January 2023, Sberbank told CNews that SberDevices was no longer part of the Sberbank group as a result of a certain transaction^[2]. At the same time, in the vacancies of the bank now you can see the recruitment in SberDevices - "SberDevices Department in Sberbank"^[3] And the online store of Salyutdevais LLC, as of October 2023, continues to operate under the SberDevices brand.

Now Sberbank uses a wide portfolio of high-performance DSS from foreign manufacturers. The chief DSS expert for the HPC stack in the SberInfra division, which provides the basis for the infrastructure development of the bank's ecosystem, requires experience with vendor solutions Dell EMC, NetApp, Huawei, Hitachi, HPE, Pure Storage^[4] At the same time, Sberbank is interested in finding promising solutions and developments in the field of DSS.

Note that Sberbank has been conducting many of its own developments in the field of data storage and processing for several years. One of the most famous is SberData Platform (SDP), which is a set of integrated data services^[5] According to the developers, it allows you to simplify the deployment and configuration of data services, reduce the time required to create big data solutions. The platform is based on own developments, as well as tools based on free software.

Also, for example, the bank is developing its own DBMS using various open source technologies. One of them is Sberbank's own assembly based on Greenplum. The team had ambitious goals to build a "globally unique storage and processing infrastructure" based on this DBMS. A distinctive feature of its own assembly is the ability to process huge amounts of data with a volume of more than 1 PB at the same time by a large number of users.
