2023: Human Liver Phantom Development

Moscow scientists have developed a phantom that mimics the human liver. The artificial model reproduces the shape and internal structure of the organ and allows you to see an ultrasound image of veins, arteries and various formations. With its help, doctors will be able to train the ability to find pathologies under ultrasound control and conduct medical manipulations. This was announced by the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine (NPCC DiT DZM) on November 2, 2023.

We do not stop working to improve the quality of patient care. To do this, our scientists have developed a phantom that mimics the human liver. It is designed to train young professionals and improve the skills of experienced doctors. Specialists, using a training model, will be able to develop skills in performing important manipulations, including detecting pathologies under ultrasound control. Since foreign analogues are not always available, our domestic development becomes a real find for specialists. At the same time, she has two important qualities - realism and durability, - said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

The phantom was made of a silicone-like substance. It reproduces the ultrasonic properties of human tissues well and can be used many times.

Earlier, scientists at the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine developed models of the breast and thyroid gland, as well as a phantom that simulates human vessels and nerves. In total, seven such models have already been created in the center's laboratory. They assist physicians in clinical practice for ultrasound, densitometry, control of quantitative parameters of computer and magnetic resonance imaging, mammography and biopsy taking under the control of thyroid ultrasound.
