2023: Hackers gain access to the company's servers. IT systems shut down

On November 2, 2023, Japan Aviation Electronics, a manufacturer of aerospace electronics, was subjected to a cyber attack, during which hackers were able to gain access to the company's servers. As a result of the invasion, a number of affected IT systems had to be completely shut down.

Japan Aviation Electronics said in an official notice that no confidential information had been leaked as of early November 2023. The company's specialists are investigating the incident and performing restoration work. Due to the attack, the corporation is forced to disable the main site; in addition, the functioning of e-mail services is disrupted.

At the same time, it is reported that the Alphv/BlackCat ransomware gang claimed responsibility for the attack. Although Japan Aviation Electronics itself says there is no data leak, hackers claim that they were able to steal from the company approximately 150,000 all kinds of documents, including drawings, contracts, confidential messages and reports. Cyber group Alphv/BlackCat added Japan Aviation Electronics to its Tor network leak site, posting screenshots of documents allegedly stolen from the manufacturer.

As of mid-November 2023, there is no information about whether Japan Aviation Electronics received a ransom demand. However, the Alphv/BlackCat group specializes in stealing these victims precisely for the purpose of extortion. Various tactics are used for this, including the introduction of ransomware and DDoS attacks.[1]
