2023: Vending machine introduced with built-in anti-theft robot that has become a giant challenge for the US

In mid-November 2023, Digital Media Vending International announced vending machines with a built-in robotic manipulator for dispensing goods. It is assumed that this system will help solve the problem of mass theft in American stores.

Embezzlement in supermarkets and other outlets is a huge disaster for the United States. Retail chains are trying to fight theft in a variety of ways: these are anti-theft frames, special tags on goods, carts with self-locking wheels, etc. Some stores use special racks and boxes that are locked: in this case, the buyer needs to wait for an employee who can open the constipation and issue the desired goods. And some outlets have completely abandoned the sales of those items that are most often taken out of stores without payment. The new Digital Media Vending International technology, according to the company, will help reduce theft.

The proposed solution is a vending machine, inside which a robotic system is installed for capturing and moving goods. To make a purchase, the client must first make a prepayment through Internet or directly in the store. After that, the buyer receives a code that needs to be entered in the machine. The robotic arm then selects the desired product and delivers it to the dispensing basket.

Thus, the contact of store visitors with goods on the shelf is completely excluded. The machine itself can have an anti-vandal design, in particular, it can be equipped with bulletproof glass. Digital Media Vending International believes that up to 10% of the goods that are most often stolen in stores can be sold through such installations.[1]
