2023: Product Announcement

On November 16, 2023, YouTube video hosting announced the launch of two free tools based on generative artificial intelligence to create music tracks. Dream Track for Shorts and Music AI services were developed in collaboration with specialists from the AI division of Google DeepMind.

With Dream Track for Shorts, you can generate unique soundtracks up to 30 seconds in the style of popular artists. To do this, just enter a small text description of the melody and choose a particular musician as a standard. Next, the service will create a track and add vocals to it. You can use such AI works in short videos. As of mid-November 2023, the service has been supported by nine performers: Alec Benjamin, Charlie Put, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain and Troy Sivan. Dream Track for Shorts is based on Lyria, a specialized AI-based music generation model developed by Google's DeepMind division.

The Music AI service, in turn, makes it possible to generate melodies using audio patterns and text descriptions. For example, the user can sing a fragment and set the AI the task of forming a soundtrack based on it with one or another main musical instrument - an electric guitar, a saxophone, etc. In this case, you can set effects, intensity and adjust some other parameters.

YouTube notes that Dream Track for Shorts and Music AI services will allow artists and content creators to improve creative processes and open up new opportunities in terms of interaction with the audience. At the same time, market participants emphasize that the use of such AI systems should be carried out subject to copyright.[1]
