2023: Product Announcement

In mid-November 2023, Boston Scientific announced the release of an improved AMS 700 system, an inflatable prosthetic penis designed to treat erectile dysfunction. The system is claimed to provide a dense, closest to natural erection.

The AMS 700 consists of two cylinders implanted in the penis, a small pump located in the scrotum, and a saline tank that is placed in the lower abdomen. Pumping the prosthesis is carried out by lightly pressing the miniature pump: in this case, the liquid from the tank flows into the cylinders, causing an erection. The transition of phalloprothesis to a "relaxed" state is ensured by pressing a special button on the pump - this transfers the liquid back to the reservoir, making the penis unerect.

All prosthesis components are connected by bent-resistant tubes. Cylinders are available in modifications with different lengths and diameters, which allows you to choose the most suitable option for a particular patient, taking into account his anatomy. Prosthesis components are offered with InhibiZone antibacterial coating containing rifampicin-based antibiotic and minocycline hydrochloride. A parylene coating is used - this is a medical polymer designed to reduce the wear of various surfaces and texture materials. This coating is applied to both sides of the inner surfaces of the cylinders and to the inner surface of the outer cylinder.

Boston Scientific has reportedly created a new Tenacio pump for the prosthesis, which adds automation to the system. It instantly initiates automatic deflation of the prosthesis with the full press of the corresponding button. The Tenacio component is designed to maximize reliability when reused.[1]
