2023: Shared DSS Service Launches

November 27, 2023 Selectel launched the shared rental service (storage systems Shared). DSS The solution gives customers access to enterprise-level DSS resources, eliminating high hardware capital costs.

As part of the service, Selectel offers all-flash DSS divided into LUNs (Logical Unit Number). In the DSS LUN, the user can rent from 1 TB of disk space and flexibly manage it during use. Read/Write Speed (IOPS) is 8000 operations per second per 1 TB of data. The administration and monitoring of the DSS LUN is under Selectel's responsibility.

When talking about use cases, the DSS LUN is suitable for storing data separately from computing. This scheme of work is in demand among customers who build private clouds on top of dedicated Selectel servers. Also, such storage has proven itself as Persistent Volume (PV) in Kubernetes. Storing data separately from calculations allows you to flexibly transfer loads from one physical server to another and increase the speed of depletion, which generally increases the reliability and availability of information systems.

Both file and block storage can be organized in the DSS LUN. The solution integrates with dedicated Selectel servers, enabling customers to build a powerful hybrid infrastructure. The starting price of the solution is 20 rubles per month for 1 GB, the minimum accommodation is 1 TB.

In addition to the DSS LUN, Selectel customers can rent dedicated DSS. Such DSS are isolated at the hardware level, and its monitoring and management is within the customer's responsibility. Single dedicated DSS house 100 TB to multiple petabytes of data and handle more than 100,000 operations per second.
