2023: Development of the system for 350 million rubles

At the end of November 2023, it became known that the Spectrum visual modeling system is being developed in Russia, which will become a domestic alternative to the Figma service (designed to develop interfaces and prototyping). Investments in the project are estimated at 350 million rubles.

The creation of the Spectrum product is provided for by the New System-Wide Software Roadmap, which was approved in December 2022. The editor is being developed by RTK-IT, a subsidiary of Rostelecom. It is assumed that the emergence of the solution will provide the Russian community with professional tools for "the uninterrupted development of domestic IT services and digital products." Developers will be able to use Spektr instead of the Figma platform, which in 2022 introduced a number of restrictions for Russian users due to the current geopolitical situation.

As of the end of November 2023, the participants in the Spectrum project are testing their own graphics engine, which is the core of the system. In addition, it is possible to work together on tasks, create vector primitives is available, and work with color and text functions are implemented.

Market participants say that the size of the announced investment in the graphic editor Spektr is significantly less than it was invested in Figma: this platform raised $90 million in venture capital funding in 2019-2020 alone. Konstantin Shpakov, an expert on interface design at Nota Modus, also says that the creators of the Spektr system need to ensure comfortable migration of data from other similar platforms.[1]
