2023: Creating a Processor
At the end of November 2023, the Kurchatov Institute national research center announced the creation of a neuromorphic processor, which is built on artificial biological materials.
Information can be transmitted only by one or another energy carrier. Therefore, one of the main tasks of nature-like technologies is the creation of a full-fledged neuromorphic processor. The prototype of such a processor was created by the Kurchatov Institute, today it is already working, - said Oleg Naraikin, vice president of the Kurchatov Institute, at the III Congress of Young Scientists. |
According to TASS, the neuromorphic processor works with networks, the exchange of impulses in which is similar to the mechanism of interaction of neurons in the human brain. In this case, the "memory" of the pulse network is contained next to the neurons in the neuromorphic processor itself, and not outside.
The fact that the Kurchatov Institute is working on the creation of a neuromorphic processor, the president of the national research center Mikhail Kovalchuk told RIA Novosti at the end of November 2023. Then he noted that the human brain, which simultaneously controls many processes in the body, surpasses artificial intelligence. Therefore, you need a new type of computer.
You don't actually reproduce intelligence and you can't... You take an array of data and make it so that you can simultaneously spin a huge amount of data... This is, roughly speaking, artificial intelligence. It's pure electrical costs... Therefore, it is necessary to develop power and create a neuromorphic computer, that is, a computer that will look like a brain... What do we do at the Kurchatov Institute, - said Kovalchuk at the end of September 2023. |
Earlier, the institute also reported on the creation of high-performance neuromorphic computing systems - devices on memristor memory cells capable of imitating the properties of synaptic contacts in the biological nervous system.[1]
