2023: Transfer of submarine to Russian Navy

At the end of November 2023, it became known about the transfer of two nuclear submarines (nuclear submarines) to the Russian Navy - the strategic Alexander III and the multipurpose Krasnoyarsk. The fact that acceptance documents were signed on the transfer of two submarines built at Sevmash to the fleet was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a source in the military-industrial complex.

At the same time, he stressed that the ships officially registered will be considered only after the St. Andrew's naval flag is raised over them. The official ceremony of raising the flag on two atomic missile carriers will take place after December 10, 2023, the agency said in a publication.

Submarine "Krasnoyarsk"

The strategic nuclear submarine Alexander III (Project 955A, Borey-A) is the seventh ship of this project, and the multipurpose boat Krasnoyarsk is the fourth ship of the Yasen/Yasen-M project, code 885/885M. They are armed with 16 Bulava ballistic missiles and are designed to solve strategic nuclear deterrence tasks. Project 885M nuclear submarines are an upgraded version of Project 885, armed with Caliber and Onyx cruise missiles.

Submarine "Alexander III"

By the end of November 2023, the combat personnel of the Russian Navy includes three nuclear submarines of the Yasen project - the boats Severodvinsk, Kazan and Novosibirsk. They are armed with Onyx and Caliber missiles. It is expected that in the future the nuclear submarine of this class will be equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles.

Officially, the cost of the projects "Alexander III" and "Krasnoyarsk" was not disclosed. The Kommersant newspaper wrote that, for example, the nuclear submarine Severodvinsk of project 885 Yasen will cost the Ministry of Defense 47 billion rubles, and the submarines Yuri Dolgoruky and Alexander Nevsky of project 955 Borey - 23.2 billion rubles each. According to Vedomosti, the total value of the contract for three submarines exceeded 100 billion rubles.[1]
