2023: Product Announcement

On December 19, 2023, Butterfly Network and Mendaera announced an agreement to commercialize robotic surgical systems equipped with an Ultrasound-on-Chip specialized ultrasound processor. It is assumed that medical complexes of a new type will help increase the effectiveness of a wide range of intervention procedures.

Mendaera, based in Silicon Valley, is developing robotic solutions for the healthcare industry. The platform combines robotics, real-time visualization, artificial intelligence algorithms, and flexible connectivity. In August 2023, Mendaera raised $24 million for development as part of a Series A funding round involving Lux Capital, Founders Fund, Operation Partners, Allen & Company and Parade Ventures.

Ultrasound-on-Chip

In turn, Butterfly Network has created the Ultrasound-on-Chip solution, which combines the main capabilities of an ultrasonic device into a single semiconductor chip. The product contains an array of several thousand miniature transceivers that can operate at different frequencies. It is claimed that the chip has programming flexibility and small size, which allows it to be used in various ultrasonic sensing scenarios.

Combining the Mendaera robotic surgery platform with the Butterfly Network Ultrasound-on-Chip solution will make it possible to improve the accuracy of certain operations under visual control. To integrate the functions of the US chip, the Butterfly Garden developer kit is used. Under the terms of the agreement, the parties will share in a certain proportion the income received from the implementation of each instance of the robotic complex with the Ultrasound-on-Chip module.[1]
