2023: Building a mobile shelter against nuclear threats
At the end of December 2023, the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergencies of the Russian Emergencies Ministry (VNII GOCHS) presented a mobile shelter from nuclear threats. The development was called "Cube-M."
According to the developers, Kub-M provides reliable protection against air shock wave, high-explosive and fragmentation effects of conventional weapons, falling fragments of building structures, as well as from toxic, chemical and radioactive substances, from penetrating radiation and from fires.
In the basic version, the shelter accommodates 54 people and a technical unit. The capacity of the shelter is increased by additional modules. If necessary, the nuclear shelter can be transported by road or rail to a new place. The production, transportation and installation of KUB-M is twice as expensive as the construction of a stationary shelter.
It is also claimed that the Kub-M is mounted faster than a stationary shelter: three days instead of eight months. At the same time, as noted in the press service of the All-Russian Research Institute of Emergency Situations, the cost of their development is two to three times lower, and the service life is at least 50 years.
These and other features of KUB-M can significantly reduce the financial costs of the construction and operation of civil defense defenses, the institute summarized, whose statement is quoted by RIA Novosti. |
They also added that the development of the Kub-M mobile shelter is an important step in ensuring the safety and protection of the population in the face of potential nuclear threats, which emphasizes the importance of scientific and technological developments in the field of civil defense and emergencies. The cost of development by the end of December 2023 was not disclosed.[1]
