2023: Trials begin

Tests of the Lada e-Niva electric SUV have begun. This was announced in mid-December 2023 by the president of AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov. According to him, the demand for a new electric car will also depend on government support measures.

Sokolov did not disclose the characteristics of the Lada e-Niva. They only indirectly confirmed that the design of the original "Niva" will not go far, because the e-Niva "will be the most highly localized domestic car in its level." AvtoVAZ plans to unify the fully electric Lada Niva SUV with the original model and the Lada e-Largus family as much as possible. In this case, we are not talking about reengineering the model: the "transformation" into an electric car will be done while preserving the mechanical all-wheel drive system and the only electric motor under the hood.

Lada e-Niva

It is expected that the traction battery in Lada e-Niva will be installed instead of a gas tank, and the electric motor and control electronics will be installed under the hood. In e-Largus, the maximum battery capacity of 61 kVt·ch is achieved by installing a two-part traction battery - instead of a gas tank and under the hood. But if the Niva has only one part, instead of a gas tank, then the capacity will be 45.7 kVt·ch, and the real range may exceed 200 km.

According to the publication Motor.ru, the center of gravity of Lada e-Niva will be even higher than that of e-Largus, and this will inevitably affect handling. As for the power of the engine, it should be the same as that of the e-Largus: nominal - 68 hp, short-term peak - 163 hp. Despite the fact that the power plant will become radically different, the all-wheel drive system will remain the same - mechanical.

The timing of the Lada e-Niva's entry into the market by the end of 2023 was not disclosed.[1]
