IBM System z10 Enterprise Clas

The IBM zEnterprise System system (zEnterprise) gives an opportunity of deployment of the integrated hardware platform capable to cover and to intellectually control workloads on the mainframe and the distributed technologies.

The IBM zEnterprise 196 platform (z196) is developed with the stock of performance and resources providing future growth and large-scale consolidation. It differs in the improved security, reducing ability and availability and also allows to reduce risks and costs. In process of increase of problems of energy consumption of z196 offers new means for considerable reduction of the used energy and the occupied space using consolidation of workloads from the distributed servers.

z196 has modification with water cooling and a high-voltage power supply of a direct current. As for water cooling, according to developers, there are no special requirements to water – it can be taken from under the crane, but there are requirements to its quantity and to the cooling device.

Affected the aspiration to reduce the price of memory which always was quite expensive the price of a system. Reduction in cost is made at the expense of its organization as RAIM (an excess array of independent memory) that entailed costs in the form of the fact that at memory distribution – 20% are taken away for RAIM.

z196 is the high-speed and scaled in the industry system of the corporate level. It is equipped with 96 cores working with clock rate of 5.2 GHz. Its performance at the rate on each core and total amount of the supported workloads of z/OS, z/VM and Linux on System z nearly 60% higher in comparison with the successful previous z10 EC model.

zEnterprise System creates the integrated and reliable IT infrastructure which, including, for workloads of Linux allows to reach up to 60% more than performance and at the price 35% lower of virtual Linux the server.

The solution zEnterprise System includes two more key components: new IBM zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX) expansion and new management tool IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager resources.

The zBX expansion contains the high-performance specialized processors intended for certain workloads such as IBM Smart Analytics Optimizer for request processing and also some POWER7 or System blade servers. These components interact with the z196 z/OS and Linux on z environments, forming the ideal platform for multilevel applications.

The product Unified resource Manager entering into the IBM System Director family is the integrated management tool the System z servers which purpose is management of platforms of zEnterprise. This tool kit allows customers to set, trace, control, optimize, to diagnose and service resources and workloads from a uniform point of management, raising at the same time System z service levels on the scale of all infrastructure.
