The high rate of up to 2.5 Gbps is provided by XGS-PON technology (symmetrical passive optical network) - this is one of the best methods for transmitting data in optical networks. It represents the evolution of PON, which achieves high data rates. This solution saves on cable infrastructure and provides data transfer rates up to 10 Gb/s for inbound and outbound channels. XGS-PON provides high throughput and transfers a large amount of data over a single fiber optic cable without the need for additional equipment.

Testing of the technology took place in several stages. Stability and declared speed characteristics were tested in laboratories of equipment manufacturers. Further, in two laboratories, the fleet of client equipment and the assessment of the ability to maintain such speeds were Дом.ру checked. The study was conducted on pilot groups of customers and showed that high-speed fares can work successfully in real-world network conditions.

With XGS-PON technology, the risk of Internet delays and interruptions is much lower, files but downloaded tens of times faster than at standard network speeds of up to 100 Mbps. For example, an hour-long video 4K with a volume of about 45 GB at a speed of 2.5 Gbps will be downloaded in 5 minutes. At 100 Mbps, such a file will load in about 1 hour.

XGS-PON technology does not depend on power supply and is therefore more stable. PON networks are an eco-friendly alternative to familiar technologies. They consume less electricity, and the exclusive installation allows you not to replace equipment for a long time - both from the provider and from the user.

The first cities in which Дом.ру installed fiber-optic networks with high bandwidth were Irkutsk and Perm. Several customers in these cities are already connected to the Internet at speeds up to 2.5 Gbps. To launch high-speed Internet, an XGS-PON terminal with a bandwidth of 10 Gbps, a Wi-Fi router of the Wi-Fi 6 standard with a connection speed of up to 6 Gbps and a WAN port of 2.5 Gbps were required. You also need a powerful network card, USB 3.0 and type-C adapter with support for speeds up to 2.5 Gbps. Дом.ру notes that in the near future he plans to connect XGS-PON technology in other cities.
