2024: Product Announcement

On January 12, 2024, Russian researchers from Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) announced the development of a smartphone case with a built-in pepper spray. As conceived by the authors of the project, such a decision will allow you to quickly respond to danger in emergency situations.

The pepper mix container is integrated directly into the housing of a conventional case for a honeycomb apparatus and is provided with a dispenser with a sprayer. The advantage of such a security system, according to the creators, is its efficiency and compactness: thanks to the integration of pepper spray into the case, the device easily fits into the smallest woman's handbag, which provides quick and convenient access to the protection tool in any situation. Many users constantly carry a smartphone in their hand, and therefore such a self-defense tool will always be ready for use. In addition, the likelihood of forgetting pepper spray when leaving the house decreases.

The authors of the project also emphasize that their invention has no analogues either in Russia or in the world. The device passed successful tests in October 2023, proving its effectiveness. The capacity of the pepper spray integrated into the case is 25 ml: this is enough for about 50 clicks. The spraying range is about 1 meter. For comparison: for standard pepper sprays, the maximum range of action usually ranges from 1.5 to 3 meters - depending on the type of spraying and volume.

In the future, the developers intend to improve their invention. In particular, it is planned to introduce a rotary protective mechanism of the spray gun and improve the ergonomics of the case. As of mid-January 2024, it is not specified at what price the product can go on sale.[1]
