2024: Evidence of falsification of research

On January 22, 2024, it became known that the Dana-Farber Cancer Center in Boston (an affiliate of Harvard Medical School) was convicted of falsifying research related to the therapy of malignancies. The organization is recalling six scientific papers, and adjustments will be made to another 31 articles.

The scandal erupted after British molecular biologist Sholto David announced the discovery of specially modified images in a number of scientific articles of the named cancer center. It is noted that the integrity of scientific images is crucial, since it is often they that give the best idea of ​ ​ the issue under consideration in the work. The institution, which is one of the largest cancer centers in the United States, has been accused of data rigging, plagiarism and misleading readers.

Dana-Farber Cancer Center caught falsifying research

The investigation found that some of the problematic articles were certified by the centre's four leaders and senior research staff. These include the center's CEO Dr. Laurie Glimcher, Executive Director Dr. William Hahn, Clinical Investigator Program Director Dr. Irene Ghobrial, and Dr. Kenneth Anderson, Program Director of the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center.

The accusations against the cancer center came shortly after Harvard University President Claudine Gay resigned due to plagiarism found in her doctoral dissertation. The Dana-Farber Cancer Center states that while some publications have identified inaccuracies, this "does not necessarily indicate the author's intention to deceive readers." Specialists of the institution as of the end of January 2024 continue to study the problem.^[1]
